Product Description WD Advanced Format technology increases media format efficiency, thus enabling larger drive capacities. WD Advanced Format drives are specifically optimized for Mac and the latest Windows operating systems such as Windows Vista and Windows 7. WD Advanced Format drives work with legacy operating systems such as Windows XP but require the use of the free WD Align software available on www.wdc.com/advformat.
Available in capacities up to 2 TB, WD Caviar® GreenTM SATA hard drives reduce power consumption by up to 40% and offer best-in-class acoustics and operating temperature. Based on WD's exclusive GreenPowerTM technology, these drives are designed to deliver power savings as the primary attribute. As hard drive capacities increase, the power required to run those drives increases as well. WD Caviar Green drives make it possible for energy-conscious customers to build systems with higher capacities and the right balance of system performance, ensured reliability, and energy conservation. They are ideal for PCs, external storage and other devices that require lower power consumption and cool, quiet operation.

So far so good March 29, 2010 A. Kline (South Korea) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this hard drive as back up to my almost full desktop hard drive; I didn't realized until I was going to install it on my desktop that I did not have anymore SATA cable slot. So, I bought an external hard drive casing and installed it on it and working like a champ. So far no issues definitely worth every penny!
Drobo friendly with 1.3.6 firmware April 11, 2010 Tom Dowd (Napa, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the Western Digital 1.5 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD15EARS just to be specific. After reading a bit on the Drobo forums it looked like the firmware needed to be at 1.3.6 for this type of drive to work. Auto update was not getting from 1.3.5 to 1.3.6 so I updated manually before ordering the drive. Once the drive arrived I put the Drobo in standby, pulled one of the 500 GB drives and installed the 1.5 TB. 30 hours later I have a protected system with a lot more capacity. All this not quite a week ago but so far so good.
Does what it says! April 15, 2010 Kent W. Lanum 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What more can you write about a WD hard drive. I am a big believer in WD's drives over Seagates, always had better luck. I got two of these and used them in an external backup unit for our firms small business server. Had these drives now for a month or more and no problems.
not a problem March 7, 2010 Thomas W. Kime (Montana) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was a little worried when I read the other reviews while waiting for this drive to get here. But its here and I followed the directions and used the jumper across pins 7&8, its not a big deal and the drive works fine, the biggest issue , I had to find my own jumper.
Excellent drive May 9, 2010 Leksi Bauer Asturias (Guatemala, Guatemala) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My brand of choice for hard drives has been WD for a very long time. This one won't disappoint - it's running REALLY fast and transferring my backup took a short amount of time. And it was CHEAP... what else can I ask :)
